Mushy Mondays

100_5630

Berry Baby

You are adorable when you come wandering out of your bedroom post-nap, all flush-cheeked and messy-haired, and say sleepily “Hi mom!  Had a good sleep!”  This is slightly less cute when you do it 10 minutes after being put down for your nap and come wandering out sans pants and pull-up but with your pyjama pants on backwards, obviously proud of yourself but also cautious and with your hands covering your bum.

Berry Boy

I love the way that you plan your birthdays well in advance of the actual event.  Like, years in advance.  You have planned out what we should buy you for your 7th birthday, and your 8th birthday, and your 9th birthday…

Mushy Mondays (on Monday!)

Learning to say “I’m Sorry”…

100_4903 100_4902

doesn’t get much mushier than that.

Mushy Mondays (on Wednesday)

Faker

100_4979

it’s a good effort

100_4980

but it’s somehow lacking in genuineness.

100_4981

sorry.

Loser

100_4986

(of teeth)

100_4982

I apologize.  Apparently, when you lose your top two teeth, you also lose your ability to smile normally.

Mushy Mondays

Berry Boy

I love that you beat the pants off of all the other boys in your Kindergarten class during your Track & Field 60m dash.  I hate that I wasn’t there to see it happen.  I can already feel the beginnings of “hockey mom syndrome” and I have a feeling it could get ugly for all the other moms out there…I apologize in advance for any obnoxious behavior….

I love the ways that you love your little brother, and that when he’s sick, you want to help him to feel better (I also find it hilarious how you are simultaneously wanting to comfort him but paranoid of his germs, asking me if it’s ok to touch his head/hand/etc, or will that give you The Puke?.  You kill me)100_4778

100_4779

I also love that ridiculous cow-lick at the front of your hair, and how it will not stand down for anything.

100_4782

100B4820

I love the way you say “watch this Mom…no, that wasn’t it…watch this…no….watch this…no wait….” over and over (and over and over…)

 100_4818

100B4821

well, at least you’re persistent…

100B4823

I love how you’re afraid to dive into the pool but you will routinely go and dunk the top of your head in…like right before church…

Mushy Mondays (on Friday)

Goober

100_4814

I love how you know exactly what you want, and how you make sure that we know exactly what you want

100_4811

I love how you love to be outside, and will hand me your shoes/sandals/rubber boots and point emphatically at your feet, strongly suggesting that we put them on you so you can go outside.  I love how you do this at 7am.  Every morning.  Emphatically.

100_4860

I love the way you mimic your older brother (who, by the way, was standing in the sprinkler.  I know, he looks like he’s peeing.  He’s not…to my knowledge, anyway)

100_4815

I love how you can ride that stupid broken pink “motorcycle “ endlessly

100_4888

and how you can pretty much only go backwards

100_4889

and how you make car noises when you get in your race car, and can pretty much only go backwards in that too

100_4893

and I think you may just be the most hilarious kid I know.

Mushy Mondays

Because I need a reminder, after the middle-of-the-night antics we had last night, as to why I love this child…

I bring to you, New Lego Magazine, in 10 photos.

Mushy Mondays

A man

100_4368

of too many friends

100_4360

comes to ruin,

100_4367

But…

100_4365

there is a friend

100_4366

who sticks closer

 100_4361

than a brother.

Mushy Mondays

Berry Boy

100_4258

I laughed…

(quietly and to myself) when I realized that for the longest time, you have been pronouncing “amen” as “all men”.  I always thought it sounded a bit…off…and when I listened closer as you sang “For the Lord is good to me…” it became clear why.

when you told me, for the hundredth time this week, that you were feeling “squeezy” (meaning “queasy”, with an upset stomach).  This was also exasperating.  I’d like to put the puke pail away sometime this month, if you don’t mind.

when I told you that you couldn’t watch something because it might have swearing in it, and you asked me what swears  were, so I told you that it was bad language, and you said “like Idiot?”  no, worse, I said.  “Stupid?” no, worse.  “Dumb?” I LOVE that these were the worst words that you could come up with

Berry Baby

100_4273

You amaze me…

with the sheer force of your will.  You had been barely a week with your cast on and you were not only crawling but trying to walk around.  It’s not a walking cast.  Settle down.

I laughed out loud…

when you picked up your brother’s wooden shotgun, pointed it at your Dad, and made “shooting” noises while thrusting the gun in his direction.  You are truly a “boy”

when I found you trying to climb up the buffet cabinet where your brother’s Lego is kept.  Literally climbing, with your fingers digging into the top of the buffet and your legs dangling off the ground (cast and all) while you tried to get your “good” leg up to a higher point…note to yourself – there are no footholds on the side of the cabinet.

Mushy Mondays

Berry Guy

You made my heart melt…

100_4045

when I asked you to get the boys breakfast after I was up re-settling Berry Baby for half an hour during the night, and you let me sleep in a bit, gave the boys breakfast, changed Berry Baby’s diaper and dressed both the boys, and did the multitude of dishes left over from last night’s fun with company.  You really blessed me this morning.

I love it…

100_3985

when you take time to be with the boys

100_3426

and share your ice cream

100_3652

and love them

100_4205

and make them wooden rifles (and pistols and shotguns)

100_4220

and make up crazy games with them

100_4232

like “magic circle” (among others)

100_4229

You amazed me…

279165_bedroom_bliss

when you arranged overnight child care for the boys and planned a romantic night away for the two of us, with supper at my favorite restaurant and a night at my favorite resort.  I’m so excited for our night away (a night of uninterrupted sleep is BLISS at this point)

I am blessed…

to have been married to such a wonderful man for the last 10 years.
