Yesterday was all over a huge parenting Fail. Which probably means it was less “kids” and more “mom” that was the issue. Be that as it may, not the best day in my world.
By the time Berry Guy got home from work, Berry Boy was in his room on a “stay-there-until-you-can-stop-crying-and-pushing-your-brother” time-out, Berry Baby was trying to snag any “out-of-reach” things that he could with his little stool, and I was well on my way to Crazy.
Thankfully, Berry Guy loves me.
He volunteered to put the boys to bed if I would deliver some fruit to town. And, since I was craving a run but dreading the treadmill, I threw on my running gear before leaving so that while I was there I could get in a quick run. This was perfect for so many reasons – it was already 7pm and the sun sets just after that where we are, so running on the grid road at home wasn’t really an option. However, town has streetlamps (smile) so it wouldn’t matter as much if it got dark before I was done. Also, running a route in town provides a lot of twists and turns, as well as houses and buildings to provide a little wind break. Running on my grid road means running straight North or straight South with no wind break. It was a no-brainer.
I dropped the fruit off and hit the road with my iPod hooked in one ear so that I could groove out but still hear vehicles. It was a little cold with the wind at first and I was wishing for an extra layer and a pair of mitts, but by the end of the first kilometre I was feeling fine.
I looped through the golf course and followed the 5km race route from the town fair day last year. It was quite possibly the most perfect run I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t stop, my hip didn’t hurt or feel *tweaky* – I just zoned out and ran. It was bliss.
By the time I hit the last kilometre or so it was getting fairly dark, which I kind of love. Running just feels different when it’s dark out – I’m not sure what it is exactly. It was a perfect run in every way – my body felt strong, my iPod playlist was super, the roads were quiet, and I was able to work out all the frustration of the day. When I got back to the house the boys were asleep and I got a great stretch in.
So thankful for runs like these (and husbands who help make them happen)
